Announcing Xobni Plus – Xobni’s most powerful Outlook search tool ever

Posted by Matt Brezina

When we ask Xobni users why they love Xobni they say a lot of really nice things, but a universal truth is that our users love Xobni search. Here’s just a sample of the comments we see on Twitter:

Thank god for #xobni I found a very important email that I thought I lost! @jasonmun

Xobni beats Outlook’s native search. Knocks it out of the park. @danieljohnsonjr

Xobni really kicks serious butt in outlook. just saved me at least an hour of pain searching for mail and figuring out file transfer history. @madguy000

I can’t live without Xobni anymore. It beats any desktop search for emails and their attachments. @paullaberge

Xobni is ingenious for fast searching through email archives – no sorting will beat search speed. Outlook doesn’t match in speed @improvedk

Thanks Peter. The whole Xobni team worked really hard on this product. It takes a lot to go from a free product to a paid professional offering. I hope you enjoy!

I am a heavy skype, linkedin & outlook user; probably the ideal profile of a user that would jump on the plus version in a heart bit; however, there is one problem – xobni extracts only 1 phone number from outlook, so when I want to skype-call (skype is my main “landline”) this person from the xobni UI I am out of luck and I have to go to skype UI. Unfortunately, xobni “strongly recommends” that I do not show my contacts at skype, which makes the skype UI approach very inefficient, to say the least..

The benefit of “one-click” calling from the same UI just evaporated..

Conclusion: the xobni skype interface is just for light, social skype users but not for heavy business-oriented users of skype & outlook concurrently; for some reason, I thought that was the audience xobni is targeting..

let me know if I am missing something, whether this can be fixed, and when (hopefully in V1.801 rather than V9.95)

I have no problems with xobni plus being a pay product but an extra $10 for each installation? I have four machines and I’m not willing to pay that much. Why not just license per user?

Lou, on July 16th, 2009 at 6:46 am

If you guys can add tagging support for e-mails, this will definitely be something I’d consider paying for.

Greg, on July 16th, 2009 at 12:03 pm

Question: Does Xobni know how to integrate with my Outlook address book yet? I would expect Xobni to know if someone is in my address book and offer to update listings from data it has extracted from conversations. This is one thing that has bothered me about the otherwise excellent product that is Xobni.

Jack Vinson, on July 18th, 2009 at 10:36 pm

Guys – I love your service… installed on a previous pc no problem.

Just installed on a new Dell Vostro laptop. Outlook 2007… keeps crashing… “Cannot open item” when I open an email. Also ‘malformed address’ and send agains when selecting addresses from the to field. Gutted because I love what you’ve done – but Outlook unusable this morning so had to uninstall… and yes – I’ve run scanpst twice – and deleted the xobni index file to try again – but to no avail.

I know this isn’t the right place to submit this feedback – however check your support site… I go to contact support > Send us a comment about Xobni and in FF it goes into an eternal screen refresh. In ie – it just goes back to the send us a message page.

Feel free to contact me.

Thanks,
Mark

I recently downloaded the newest version of xobni. While I very much like the software, I was disappointed to see that photos of other people seem not to appear. Is there something in the new software I need to adjust to get photos back again?

Anonymous, on July 20th, 2009 at 11:15 am

@jack – xobni does integrate with your address book. We pull data from the address book and display it in Xobni. We haven’t yet released a version that takes data xobni extracted and pushes it into Outlook. I promise you tho – this is coming

@mark – thanks for the feedback. you just helped us find out there is a bug on our website that doesn’t allow users to submit feedback. it is being fixed. I’m going to connect you with our support team – it looks like you are experiencing a unique bug

@anonymous – the photos should continue to appear. They won’t show up until you’ve clicked on a message from each of your contacts. At that point, we go out to the web and pull in photos. If you installed the new version without uninstalling the old version, the photos should have been saved.

1.8 is very unstable, I keep getting Outlook crashes on nearly every e-mail I receive since I installed it.

Alex, on July 21st, 2009 at 12:10 pm

@Alex please contact xobni support http://www.xobni.com/support

They’d love to talk to you and fix the problem for you and anyone else that may be experiences odd issues.

Matt Brezina, on July 21st, 2009 at 1:55 pm

Very bad movement from Xobni; 1.7 could search inside all PST files, but now with 1.8 you must upgrade to Plus to have that functionality. It’s not a good idea to take out functionalities from a version, only to release them again on a pay new one.

redderzooming, on July 22nd, 2009 at 9:03 am

@redderzooming – no existing users lost any functionality with respect to PST indexing. We grandfathered existing users of Xobni to have full PST indexing in 1.8 – this was our way of thanking our existing users for taking us through our beta testing periods and sticking with Xobni as we build our business.

Matt Brezina, on July 23rd, 2009 at 5:55 pm

Love the idea and like the product, thank you very much for the awesome awesome tool. One suggestion though: for the price of $29.95 i would expect it to support 2 machines. Everyone i know uses one machine at work and one at home (at least, most people use more than 2 total). Current pricing makes the price 40+ bucks for me and everyone i know, which is little discouraging to me.

Gagan, on July 29th, 2009 at 9:41 pm

I love Xobni…but the upgrade kills outlook everytime I try to send an email.

This is very disappointing as I think the product “was” world class.

Danny, on August 13th, 2009 at 2:10 am

@Danny – the latest release should definitely fix this issue. Please try it at http://www.xobni.com/download Thanks!

Josh Jacobson, on August 26th, 2009 at 4:51 pm

I need to uninstall this immediately- Please inform me how.

Bundling software with ought notice- is the worst.

Eric, on September 1st, 2009 at 3:10 pm

Terrible – you removed functionality from the free version and bundled crapware (all these non-functional buttons) with and upgrade. This is so disapointing – you’ve just lost a potential customer.
