Xobni announces support for Pine email client

Posted by Matt Brezina

Xobni is proud to announce the beta release of Xobni for the Pine email client. This new release includes support for all major operating systems, including Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows running Cygwin.

Xobni beta for Pine exemplifies our commitment to bringing Xobni to platforms outside of Microsoft Outlook.

Click here to see the revamped Xobni homepage which will go live tomorrow.

Xobni for Pine will feature all of the same great features you’ve come to expect from Xobni for Outlook, including: ultra-fast search, conversation threading, and social network discovery. It also adds some new features that we’re sure you’ll find useful, like spacebar navigation, ASCII avatar rendering, 100K memory footprint, and a powerful keyboard command set (see man page).

We’re very excited about the future of the pine platform and look forward to developing and improving Xobni for Pine in years to come.

UPDATE: With April Fools’ come and gone, we must admit that this was made in commemorative jest. We hope you enjoyed our geeky humor!

Wow, you guys really understand compatibility. How rare in a startup these days! When you have keyboard shortcuts for your vi based pine editor, let me know and I’ll sign up!

LOL that’s awesome. Sadly I know a lot of people that still use pine. Although at least it doesn’t make 5GB PST files and periodically spike my CPU for minutes on end. :)

Would have been better, if you used a) alpine (pine’s successor) and b) not such a very old pine version. The last one was a 4.6x. Oh, and yes, alpine is still widly in use. You didn’t hit a dead but an alive user group.

P.S.: I really would be happy, if you would care more about non-MS software instead of just making fun on the cost of free software. That does not really help xobni’s image. At least my image of xobni sank even more with this “joke”.

P.P.S.: I really wonder how Gabor could use such a company as employer. When I met him he last time IRL was working on plugins for free, not proprietary MUAs.

it’s so sad… I remember using Pine as my primary email client at Yale… Makes me feel old… Hope you guys are doing well.

I actually came looking to see if there was a version for Thunderbird – I only use my Outlook client for my junk mail account, it hardly ever gets real mail. All that goes via T’Bird…

Even better, a portable T’Bird version…
